February 2023: Maqsood Ahmad

Maqsood Ahmad will focus on the contribution of British Muslims to society, mentioning the contribution towards the NHS, business, employment, law and frontline services. Despite the contributions British Muslims have made and are making, they still face many challenges (Islamophobia, unemployment, health inequalities). Maqsood will conclude by outlining the opportunities for British Muslims by focusing on their involvement in politics, policy and the media.

Maqsood Ahmad joined the British Muslim Heritage Centre in April 2019 as the Chief Executive Officer, after serving the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) as the senior manager responsible for programmes on mental health, dementia, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

He was a cohort director for the Nye Bevan Leadership Programme for the University of Manchester and is currently a Non-Executive Director for Pennine Care Foundation Trust. He leads the Criminal Justice Thematic for the Mayor’s Greater Manchester Race Equality Panel. 

Maqsood has previously held posts at the Home Office where he was Head of Equalities for Policing, leading programmes on behalf of Home Secretaries, Policing Ministers and Home Office Policy Directors; at the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) where he was Strategic Director for Diversity, Equality and Communications, and was instrumental in developing the Inclusion Directorate; and at H.M. Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) where he was Assistant Inspector of Constabulary, leading on the equality and diversity inspections, and inspected all 43 police forces and made major recommendations that contributed towards increasing the confidence of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in policing.
